Netflix Has Finally Renewed Queer Eye

Love, Simon Author Responds to Fans Shipping the Title Gay Character With His Female Best Friend

$

– Becky Albertalli clarified a lingering question that's left fans scratching their heads: In her novel Simon Vs. The Homosapien Agenda about a closeted gay teen, recently adapted as a film where Simon is a closeted gay teen... Simon is, indeed, a closeted gay teen. Specifically gay. Exclusively gay. Exclusionarily (?) gay.
– The response originated from some fans saying they wanted Simon to end up with Leah, his best friend. After other fans of the film started criticizing one of them, they claimed denying Simon possibly being bisexual was biphobia and bisexual erasure and people shouldn't assign labels to him.
– The film inspired some fans to come out to their parents and friends as bisexual after its release. While this obviously is not the place, bisexual men are under represented in flim, television, and literature.

– Albertalli's new novel "Leah On the Offbeat" is a sequel to Simon andfocuses on Leah where she comes to terms with being bisexual. It releases April 24th. She's also written "The Upside of Unrequited" and the upcoming"What If It's Us".

"In this sequel to the acclaimed Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda—now a major motion picture, Love, Simon—we follow Simon’s BFF Leah as she grapples with changing friendships, first love, and senior year angst.
When it comes to drumming, Leah Burke is usually on beat—but real life isn’t always so rhythmic.
She’s an anomaly in her friend group: the only child of a young, single mom, and her life is decidedly less privileged. She loves to draw but is too self-conscious to show it. And even though her mom knows she’s bisexual, she hasn’t mustered the courage to tell her friends—not even her openly gay BFF, Simon.
So Leah really doesn’t know what to do when her rock-solid friend group starts to fracture in unexpected ways. With prom and college on the horizon, tensions are running high.
It’s hard for Leah to strike the right note while the people she loves are fighting—especially when she realizes she might love one of them more than she ever intended."

ONTD, when have you seen (straight) fans ship gay male and female characters in straight relationships? And would you want to see a "Leah On the Offbeat" sequel film?

Pakistan Hires World's First Transgender News Anchor

Marvia Malik, a former model, has become the world's first transgender news anchor. She is working at Lahore-based Kohinoor News. She was previously the first trans model to walk the runway in Pakistan.

In an interview, she said that she became estranged from her family. Her university professors (at Punjab University) were supportive, but she faced discrimination from students. On the struggles trans people go through in society, she says: "When transgender [people] are so isolated by society as well as family, they obviously have no other option but to sell their bodies and become escorts, or dance on the streets and become beggars."

However, she believes that she can be a role model: "I want to show the country that we are more than objects of ridicule ... that we are also human," she said. Pakistan has taken historic steps towards trans rights; the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights recently approved a bill empowering trans people to determine their gender without medical approval.

Celebrities like Laverne Cox have congratulated her, and the news has been widely circulated on twitter.

How Taylor Swift helped Todrick Hall survive crazy breakdowns, his music, and Trayvon Martin

Todrick Hall talks to Billboard about his debut album, Forbidden. A two-hour visual album that consists of thirty songs and featured artists with a “story of persecution.”

The concept album however, almost didn't come to be after several “crazy breakdowns” with doubt. Swift would help Todrick and his insecurities about the project:“I would go over to her house, and over cinnamon sticks from Domino's, she would just listen to me crying and thinking that this wasn’t possible. Every time I was dealing with major problems I'd call her, and I'm just so grateful that she'd take the time to sit down and listen to me vent.”

• Taylor Swift assured Todrick that the album was going to be a success and that his fans were going to love it.

His music video for “Ordinary Day” depicts a black police officer shooting an unarmed white child while the rest of the neighborhood dance and go on about their day while his body remains in the street.

• “I wanted this to be uncomfortable for people to watch. You have to deal with the fact that they're doing this big production number, and his body is just laying right there,” adds Todrick.

• The street sign in the music video reads “Novyart,” or Trayvon spelled backwards.

• “It just seemed like his life didn't matter. Like he was some squirrel that someone had accidentally run over in some cul-de-sac and people were just waiting for someone to come clean it up.”

Brandy, RuPaul, Tamar Braxton, Keala Settle, Tiffany Haddish and many more are featured on the album as Hall wanted to make sure to showcase black excellence.

* Aaron Carter, best known for thirsting after Lizzie McGuire, previously came out as bi, saying that as a 17-year-old he had had "an experience with a male" that he had been attracted to.

* In a more recent interview, when the interviewer asked him if he'd be open to a relationship with another man, Aaron said his words had been misconstrued: "Yeah, no. It was more so just a story that happened when I was like 17 with somebody, and I can find men and women attractive, but when it comes down to it, I think it was a little misconstrued. I see myself being with a women and having kids. I want to have a family... I keep telling people that. I don't want it to be misconstrued too much just because I was open about a story."

* This is a change from another interview he did with the tv show The Doctors, where he said that he would be open to a relationship with a man who "comes into my life and sparks an interest."

-John Barrowman is opening up about his departure from Arrow.

-He was on the show for 5 years playing Malcolm Merlyn, a reoccurring thorn in Team Arrows side and father to Thea Queen (Willa Holland). In the 5th season finale the characters journey on the show came to a sudden end as his character sacrificed his life for his daughters off screen.

-JB was told that he would be killed off the night before he was set to shoot the episode and was not happy, especially with the way they killed off the character. He told them where they could shove it.

-Showrunner Marc Guggenheim went on to say that the ball was in JBs court when it came to returning to the show which dumbfounded JB as he was told that they had no plans on bringing the character back.

-He believes they didn't want to face another backlash like they did when they killed off Katie Cassidy's character, Laurel Lance, and thus killed him off screen to give the illusion of "is he or isn't he" dead.

-When talking about Doctor Who, he wanted the character (he played Jack Harkness) to be disliked as he knew the character was going to eventually turn heroic.

-His flirtatious personality helped inspire the character being flirtatious.

-Encourages fans to get their nerd on at Cons and just go all out as no one will judge you for it.

-Was part of the BBC documentary series The Making of Me as a test subject where they explored sexuality.

-Thinks "the current political situation is disgusting in the sense that we have been led down a path." when it comes to LGBTQ rights. As Trump and co. claimed he was for everyone and then turned on them on a dime.

Conservatives complain that "Roseanne" is too liberal

Conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro tweeted his problems with the new Roseanne show, arguing that the series was too liberal despite the title character voting for Trump, citing how Roseanne accepted her gender nonconforming grandson and supported a woman's right to choose. "The whole premise of 'Roseanne' is that this pro-abortion, pro-LGBT woman who is happy to watch her grandson wear girls' clothing voted Trump -- because she's blue collar. That isn't an accurate depiction of Trump voters."

- Former 'Sex and the City' actor Cynthia Nixon, who recently announced she was running for governor of New York, was interviewed by Wendy Williams.
- Nixon speaks of how "devastated" she was when audience members clapped at the reveal of Big's gift (of that huge closet) for Carrie in the second 'Sex' movie. She said that climax went against the theme of female empowerment from the television series.
- She's one award away from being an EGOT winner.
- Why is she running for governor? She says: "I love New York... The election of Donald Trump was a real wakeup call... For women across the country that if we don't like the direction our government is going in, we have to step up and we have to get involved like never before."
- They discuss the Stephon Clark case. Wendy asked her if the situation was a "black man thing," and Cynthia said it is.
- She says black women are the "cornerstone" of the Democratic party, and that we have to let them lead.
- Nixon is for the legalization of marijuana: "Let's capture some of that revenue."
- Wendy asks Cynthia if she's ready to have cameras all up in her personal life (she's married with three kids) if she's elected governor.
